The accounting classes at CHS are using technology for all assignments this year. Assignments are completed and submitted using a website called Aplia. Aplia, Inc. is an educational technology company founded in 2000 by a Stanford University professor. It offers online homework products geared toward college-level economics, finance, accounting, business statistics, and business communication courses. In March 2007 Cengage Learning (formerly Thomson Learning) acquired Aplia Inc. and began adding high school level courses fully integrated with textbooks from leading publishers.
Instructors can post announcements, upload course materials, host student discussions, e-mail students, and manage their gradebook with Aplia's course management system. Automatic grading provides immediate feedback to students and gives an instant sense of each student's comprehension.
"I am very pleased with Aplia. Because of the instant feedback, students seem to comprehend the material better and faster." - Mrs. Puppe
In addition to the Aplia website, Cavalier accounting students will also be using Microsoft Excel, South-Western's Automated Accouting, and Quickbooks. Another section of accounting has been added for second-year accounting students.
