Cavalier School Prepares for the Flu Season
Monday, September 14th, 2009

The Cavalier Public School will be taking various precautions to help prevent the spread of the flu. It is important to have parent support through the implementation of the precautions the school will be enforcing throughout this flu season.

There are three main things families, students, and school personnel can do to keep from getting sick and spreading the flu. They are as follows;

• Practice good hand hygiene. Students and staff members should wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol- based hand cleaners are also effective. (Each classroom will have these cleaners available for use.)

• Practice respiratory etiquette. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not into your hands.

• Stay home when you are sick. Keeping sick students at home means that they keep the virus to themselves rather than sharing it with others. Students need to be fever free for at least 24 hours without a fever reducer medication before they may come back to school.

The Cavalier Public School staff will do their best at keeping surfaces and items that are most likely to have had frequent hand contact clean. Teachers will wipe desks and door knobs several times per day.

Please make note! Cavalier Public School will not be awarding perfect attendance awards this year. Test exemptions for perfect attendance at the high school level will not be practiced this year. Students need to stay home when they are sick and do not need the pressure of trying to make perfect attendance during this flu season when the best thing for all is to stay home when feeling ill.
